West Indies dumps Sri Lanka by 36 runs lifts the 2012 T20 World Cup by smashing Sri Lanka in its own backyard which turned out to be the graveyard of Lankan batsmen. Chris Gayle (3 of 16 balls) had a rare flop show in the finale of this blistering extravaganza and the West Indian team looked down and out till Marlon Samuels and skipper Darren Sammy smashed Malinga & Co. out of the park quite frequently.Malinga was smashed out of the park 5 times by Samuels during his innings of 78.Anjantha Mendis was the pick of the bowlers and had a magical spell of 4 for 12 in his four overs but all in vain. Skipper Mahela Jayawardene (33 of 36 balls) and Kumar Sangakkara (22 of 26 balls) and later Nuwan Kulasekra (26 of 13 balls) showed some resistance against the lethal West Indian attack. There was a dance show on the ground other than cricket whenever Sri Lankan batsmen went back to the pavilion. Marlon Samuels was awarded the man of the match for his innings of 78 and a wicket for 15 runs in his quota of 4 overs.
The time has come for the revival of West Indies cricket which has been under a scanner of underperforming and under achieving since the famous world cup wins in the late 70’s. This year’s IPL showcased some wonderful talent hidden in the Caribbean islands like Keiron Pollard, Sunil Narine,Chris Gayle(Opan Gagman Style), Dwayne Bravo, Marlon Samuels (Hero of 2012 T20 WC finale),Andre Russell and more.
