Anyone, who knows Rujul Vora for a while, would vouch for his passion for drumming, innovation and entrepreneurship. A conversation with him would not be complete without the mention of these three topics. Thus, it came as no surprise when he decided to launch The Drum Circle in Ahmedabad.
A drum circle is a fun concept which involves participants enjoying and exploring music through drums whilst sitting in a circular formation. According to Rujul Vora, CEO and Founder of The Drum Circle, “A Drum Circle is headed by a Drum Circle Facilitator who makes the rhythm and triggers enthusiasm into the group. People in a drum circle aren’t looking to become skilled performers, but a creative and rewarding ‘social experience’ – a chance to bond with others, an opportunity for self-expression or to relax, or do something ‘healthy’ for themselves.”

The Drum Circle: a great way to meet like-minded people and an opportunity to reconnect with your inner rhythm
Rujul has been drumming since his childhood. While he was studying at FLAME in Pune, he encountered his first drum circle. The memory of this experience stayed with him forever. When he completing his Masters in Business Design from Domus Academy, Milan, he observed that people on that side of the world come together on weekends to interact and make new connections. He wanted such a warm thing to happen in Ahmedabad as well. And thus, The Drum Circle happened. Rujul says, “The Drum Circle was a random thought one noon and then I started working on the idea. It’s a part of ‘Social-Design’, where ice-breaks over the spirit of drumming. I didn’t have a business plan yet, but it just existed in my heart. I was thinking of a name and wanted to keep it simple. I asked himself ‘What are You into?’, and I got the name ‘Drum Circle, so ‘The Drum Circle’ came into being and even its acronym sounded well ‘TDC’.”

Once the idea of a Drum Circle clicked and he started working towards it day & night. He initiated his research, forming the team for it and setting-up the required infrastructure. He believed that this format of interaction would be appreciated by Amdavadis and will encourage a dialogue between strangers. Rujul’s goal is to connect like-minded people through the vibrations of drums. He adds, “The Concept of – Drum Circles in Ahmedabad, is an outcome of idea that was born witnessing the stagnant sources of entertainment scene in the city. Other than Facebook, there were no social setting where people unknown to each other can come, rejoice and bond over. No fun activity to spend an evening for. Thus, The Drum Circle was born.”
Ahmedabad had witnessed many musical shows and concerts but nothing like The Drum Circle was seen before. But, since the launch of The Drum Circle in July 2014 , we have seen many Recreational Drum Circles, Corporate Drum Circles and Open Drum Circles. Rujul has conducted Drum Circles with schools, NGOs, corporates, event organisers and more. To be a part of a drum circle, you can follow their Facebook page – TheDrumCircle or call on +91-9898569565 or email on thedrumcircle@gmail.com. You can even participate by registering on the spot. The drums are provided and you do not need any music or drumming experience for being a part of the drum circle.
