Kite festival known as Makarsakranti or better known as Uttarayan in this part of the world is one of the most awaited festivals of Ahmedabad and the entire city turns into a battlefield with warriors(Patangbaaz) of each age group on millions of terraces of the city.
The International Kite Festival is probably Gujarat’s most eagerly awaited public event and a huge success with foreign tourists as well. This festival, which was formerly hosted at Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad will be hosted in cities outside Gujarat for the first time.
This year Mumbai and Delhi will be celebrating this festival at Priyadarshi Park and Connaught Place respectively. Apart from these two cities, the other cities in the Fest’s itinerary are Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Saputara, Dhordo in White Rann of Kutch, Modhera, Somnath and Mandvi.
Kite flyers from 40 countries around the globe are expected to take part in this festival. The international participants will be coming from countries including UK, France, Italy, Singapore, Switzerland, Spain, Netherlands, Brazil, South Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam and Philippines.
The Kite festival commences on 7th January and will conclude on the day of MakarSankranti (14th January).
