After Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna and now Yash Chopra has left us without any prior notice as to who would fill in their shoes or whether the void will remain forever. After all these people, one can surely predict that Romance is officially dead. None of the so called newbie of B-Town promises to come close to these legends. Just imagine Jackky Bhagnani in place of Dev Anand, Imran Khan in place of Shammi Kapoor, Ranvir Singh in place of Rajesh Khanna or any director donning the hat of Yash Raj Chopra.

Throughout my childhood and teenage days I have gorged on his classics like Darr(1993) , Dil Toh Pagal Hai (1997) ,Veer Zaara (2004) to his vintage collection of Waqt(1965), Daag(1973), Deewar(1975), Kabhie Kabhie(1976), Trishul(1978), Kaala Patthar(1979), Silsila(1981), Chandini(1989) and Lamhe(1991). The man behind the success of Amitabh Bachchan and the Godfather of King Khan (Shah Rukh Khan) was a man with a mission who came to Mumbai from Lahore at the tender age of 15 and assisted I.S Johar and his producer –director brother B.R Chopra.

Chopra founded and was the Chairman of Yash Raj Films, which is India’s biggest production house along with Yash Raj Studios. Yash Chopra in his long span of 53 years as a director won many filmfares and other accolades among which the most important was to win the hearts of millions of his fans across the globe. He was the reason why Indian couples preferred Switzerland as their Honeymoon destination after he showed the beauty of the country when most of the Indian producers were busy shooting in Punjab, Kashmir and other places of India. Yash Chopra has always been a trend setter whether it is his love for Switzerland, launching Shah Rukh as a psycho path grey character in Darr to sending imprisoning him to create an EPIC love story ‘Veer Zaara’ and romancing Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif in his yet to be released ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’

He turned ordinary looking heroines to beauty queens and the Dialogues of his films have always been so neat and you can feel the respect for the man. It is quite astonishing for a man of 80, to direct something like ‘Jab Take Hai Jaan’ which is supposed to be his best love story ever. Yash Chopra’s sudden exit created a silence in Bollywood and I don’t find any other option for Mr. Yash Raj Chopra. Do you??

I am a nobody to write about the man whom the whole world loved. But I pay homage to the man who is and will be the Original Showman of Bollywood.

May Your Soul R.I.P!!!
