Kankaria is the biggest lake of the city and represents a royal history of Ahmedabad. It is located in the southern part of the city in Maninagar area, which is the most populated area of the city. The lighting and umpteen number of eating joints, street food available from the thela walas, chai walas, golawalas and what not makes it a popular and an enjoyable place to visit. This place is very well known for its junk food and at night this place soars up especially in the summer between months on March and June.
The inauguration ceremony of the kankaria lakefront was held on 25th dec, 2008. A train named “ATAL EXPRESS” was imported from London; the train circles the lake on a 4.5 km track at a speed of 10km/hr. This place is enjoyed as a place for yoga, jogging, walking and running especially in the morning. There are also other exciting places like kankaria zoo, nagina vadi, Balvatika, aquarium, and Gardens.
Ahmedabad Eye is a tethered balloon ride set up near Kankaria Lake after renovation. Tourists will remember this place for year’s altogether.
