This young singer is an English Literature Graduate who is now focusing on her music career. Recently, she even released her first song –“Banjaara” along with Siddhant Mishra on 13th June 2013. Since we live in a digital age, Shaili too has decided to use social media extensively to promote her singing talent.

When we first heard her voice, our immediate reaction was WOW! She is a singing diva to say the least! Tuneful, melodic, rich and mellifluous…are just a few adjectives that can start to describe her voice. Her song “Banjaara” is immensely soulful and her voice perfectly suits the theme of song, which is about the life of a nomad who is lost in the promises and pains of love. The Ahmedabad Blog caught up with Shaili Shah to chat about the music scene in Ahmeadabad. Here are the excerpts from our chat:

TAB:  Describe the current music scene in Ahmedabad.

Shaili Shah:

I would like to bring you to notice a few facts, which I have been facing here in our city. The mentality of music listeners here is still conservative and they see a non-trained singer like me as a rookie. I haven’t had any sort of training in singing yet my experience of singing since 15 years isn’t taken into consideration because I am not classically trained. Talented people find it difficult to come up because we lack in giving them a proper platform. The reality shows come and go, and there is not a single talent promoted until a ‘call’ from your end goes to the higher authorities for obligations. I have been performing live from years and original music is not welcomed at all. Ahmedabad has immense talent and we need to build platforms to give musicians and singers a chance.

Experimentation is also not widely accepted. I got inspired by Anuska Manchanda’s live performances and try to incorporate jazz in our Bollywood songs but the response was not welcoming. People like to stick to what is heard before. They don’t want to give a chance to original and upcoming music. A lot of my friends have shifted to Mumbai and the reason they give is – as a singer, there is no scope here in Ahmedabad. I am not keen into going anywhere. I want to form a band, do music in my own city Ahmedabad, experiment with all sorts of music genres and cater to the crowd and yet want to get appreciated. This song is a small effort to know what people like. There is a limited crowd, which appreciates and understands this but then again its once in a lifetime when you get to perform for such an audience. I find it too difficult to come up and give my best. These are my views about the music scene in Ahmedabad especially for singers. I am hoping my latest efforts will change the local music scene and will encourage others.

TAB:  So what does an Amdavadi do if they are passionate about singing?

Shaili Shah: If they are really passionate they should take the help of Social Media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and blogs, cause it is the only large platform available right now for Amdavadis. Social media network is immensely helpful in the current scenario. Amdavadis are taking interest in what a new talent is posting or has posted and for me these platforms have been really helpful.

Shaili is a true Amdavadi who loves the city and is here to make a positive change. Please support her talent and don’t forget to catch her on her Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/Shaili.R
