Ahmedabad may not be the fashion capital of India, but it definitely is home to some really talented fashion designers. But what is the style quotient of Ahmedabad? How fashionable are Amdavadis?
For some Amdavadis, Fashion Week last all year. This line perfectly describes one Ahmedabad based Fashionista – Juhi Bansal. For her, dressing up is a way of life and she loves to share her fashion experiences with the world through her fashion blog: www.closetbuddies.in. A quick glance at her blog and you’ll realize she has a natural flair for fashion and style.
The Ahmedabad Blog got in touch with her to get insights on her experiences as a fashion blogger in Ahmedabad.
The Ahmedabad Blog: How did the name of your blog closetbuddies. in coming up?
Juhi Bansal: Every morning millions of girls like me wake up, look at their closet and exclaim, “I have nothing to wear!” We are all buddies in that sense, hence Closet Buddies. Also, CB shares its initials with Carrie Bradshaw, one fashion icon we all look up to!
The Ahmedabad Blog: How would you describe your own personal style?
Juhi Bansal: I believe being stylish cannot be achieved in isolation. You need the right attitude and a good amount of confidence. My personal style is in being comfortable. (Although I have been known to occasionally slip into very uncomfortable shoes just because they were pretty!). Also, I feel accessorizing plays a very important part in styling so I use it to my advantage by dressing up and dressing down solely by playing on this.
The Ahmedabad Blog: What do you love about fashion blogging?
Juhi Bansal: The power!! But along with power comes responsibility (sheepish grin!). I love the way I can experiment with looks, trends and styles and make a difference in a few lives every morning!
The Ahmedabad Blog: What do you think is the fashion quotient of Ahmedabad?
Juhi Bansal: Amdavadi girls are a stylist’s dream come true! Glowing skins, perfect figures and the right attitude…it just doesn’t reflect in their style statement! Probably they just need a little bit of mentoring and direction. CB aims to do just that.
The Ahmedabad Blog: Any fashion trends unique to Ahmedabad?
Juhi Bansal: Oh the garba dress ups! Every Amdavadi girl turns a stylist during Navratri. It’s a delight to see them experiment with fusion wear, accessorizing and letting go. Sadly, for the rest of the year this spirit goes into hiding.
The Ahmedabad Blog: What is the biggest challenge about your fashion blogging in Ahmedabad?
Juhi Bansal: I don’t claim to know all about fashion but I’ve spent a lot of time experimenting with style. It’s ok to ask for help till you discover your own sense of style, which a lot of girls are afraid to try. I wish we had fashion bloggers when we were growing up! Thankfully, every day more and more girls are warming up to the idea and writing in to me and others like me.
The Ahmedabad Blog: Your fashion tips for Amdavadi women
Juhi Bansal: Don’t wait for a special occasion to dress up. Wear your best every day of the week! And yeah, never forget just because you are wearing pretty shoes and a nice dress you are any less smart than the be-spectacled girl next to you.
The Ahmedabad Blog: Favorite stores to shop in Ahmedabad?
Juhi Bansal: I am as much a high street shopper as a flea market bargain hunter. Sadly, Ahmedabad leaves you starving for both. Online shopping comes to my rescue every time I am looking for something different.
The Ahmedabad Blog: Any place in Ahmedabad that inspires the Fashion blogger within you?
Juhi Bansal: Every place in Ahmedabad is an inspiration. Café Zen reminds me of the French Couture, Goodies brings out my best sun dresses, the Riverside makes me want to roam around in my chaniya-cholis and the patisserie in Hyatt almost always makes me strut down there in my best heels.
The Ahmedabad Blog: Any tips for fellow fashion bloggers in Ahmedabad?
Juhi Bansal: Keep up the good work. If you can change the sad mind-set that smart and pretty can co-exist, your job is more than done!
