Ahmedabad may not be the Silicon Valley of India, but that doesn’t stop local entrepreneurs from taking up tech projects that can revolutionize enterprise architecture. One such tech project is Gridle.
Gridle is a collaboration platform developed by two enthusiastic Amdavadis – Yash Shah and Abhishek Doshi and their friend Anupama Panchal who is from Udaipur. A simple collaboration problem faced by their parent’s businesses, promoted these young entrepreneurs to develop a tool that can connect coworkers, information and conversations within the business enterprise. We connected with Co-Founder Yash Shah to understand Gridle and their entrepreneurial journey in Ahmedabad.
Give us a brief about Gridle
Gridle is a cloud based visual collaboration tool. The platform allows teams to work together and communicate, share and stay up to date with their projects and priorities. It also provides them a bird-eye view of their engagements and interactions with teammates. With features like planner, task-management system, dynamic timelines, instant messaging and groups, Gridle allows a user to work efficiently. It also has integrated popular services like Skype, Dropbox and drive for users so that they do not have to learn new ways to do the same things. Uniquely, Gridle brings in data-visualization into collaboration. We understand that visual communication is 10 times faster than literal communication. We are a 7 people team working out of Ahmedabad passionately to solve problems that exist in collaboration today.
What is the thought process behind the brand name
The product is called Gridle-desk. As you will see in our brochure, our central feature, Circo is a grid and it connects everyone. Also, since a person can see everyone he works with on one screen and communicate, assign tasks, share files or get an update in the same space, it works like a desk. Thus, a place where everyone is in a grid and works like a desk. Thus, “Gridle-desk”.
You are incubated at iAccelerator. How has the incubation helped your brand?
We could not ask for more. The program has complimented us in more ways than we had expected. The people we have met here, their view, mentorship and willingness to help has been the highlight. When we state ourselves as a portfolio company at iAccelerator, it works as an attention grabber. People listen to what you say. The association has helped us in a lot many ways.
What is the USP of your brand?
The ability to get a bird-eye view of your engagements and interactions with your teammates which helps you make decision faster and better. The management system of chat conversations and files that we have is uniquely individual specific and is aligned to user-behaviour. We minutely observed mind-sets and have designed a simplistic web-software. Our interface, experience and the fact that we are one platform which plugs in a lot of other services is what we think is unique about us.
What do you think is the scope of the business application development market in India?
The market in India is still immature. We are seeing a shift in mid-sized businesses from being family owned to being professionally run. With the rise of social-networks, employees are demanding a change in enterprise IT design. Moreover, with around 40% work being outsourced in verticals like IT, design and consultancy, we feel that the market is huge enough. Also, since most collaboration tools are based out of developed economies, the pricing is huge which proves to be a resistive feature while opting for one for businesses in India. With our pricing being 30% of existing ones, we hope to expand the market here in India.
What is the biggest hurdle you have faced or are still facing?
The biggest hurdle we have faced till date has to be the funds. Same is the case with almost everyone in start up ecosystem. Due to lack of funds, we were not able to develop as fast as we should have. As of now, we have secured enough funding and we hope to have a smooth journey here on.
What are your future plans?
The future plan as far as the product is concerned is to gain and maintain a presence over multiple platforms in mobile and pads. We have to continuously innovate in order to provide incremental value to our customers. Our future plan includes usability testing, accumulating and understanding analytics generated by users.
