Food Review: The Philosophy Club

My wife and I decided to visit The Philosophy Club (after hearing about it online) to have lunch on her birthday. The Philosophy Club serves artisan vegan food from around the world.

For starters, we decided to go for a falafel platter and a ginger beer. Accustomed to having a sweetish drink, the ginger beer was a bit awkward to taste initially. But slowly, one can easily develop a taste for this delicious concoction.

Across restaurants, in pastas, one can always get penne, spaghetti and macaroni. At times even ravioli is available on some menus. But gnocchi is one item which has always evaded us. We were pleasantly surprised to know that we could have gnocchi with pesto sauce here. The texture of the dish was amazing. However, I felt that the wrapper could have been a bit thinner with more filling But again, that could just be my Indian palate acting up. 🙂 The wrap with tofu and mango chutney was awesome. The fresh taste of the mango chutney just hits the spot.

For desserts, we were recommended the spicy carrot cake and the mango flavoured cheesecake. Gemma Ferre Martinez (of the Philosophy Club) informed us that the cheesecake was a no-bake cake. The cashews and the toppings on both the amazingly moist cakes just hit the spot.

All in all, this is a wonderful place to taste some authentic flavours. The decor of the lovely little place (wooden furniture, the quaint little porcelain cups on the shelves, the bookcase) and the wonderful hospitality offered by Gemma make this place a true delight. If you happen to be there when not many tables are occupied, try to strike a conversation with Gemma and you would be surprised to know how much this lady is interested in the Indian culture. This would only enhance your entire experience at The Philosophy Club.

Although the price is a bit on the higher side, it’s worth every single paisa.
