December end calls for celebration, and celebration generally ends up with good food (as far as Aapnu Amdavad is concerned). So a few friends and I decided to let our pockets loose and try out a fancy new place.
@9 – The Fern, as it clearly suggests is on the ninth floor of The Fern (where is your creativity, restaurant owners?) It is a beautiful rooftop terrace restaurant with a delightful view of the city on three sides and mosaic of walled plants on the fourth. The view stretches as far as your eyes can go, making me wonder how amazing it would look in the sun. Apart from the view, we were blessed with live music, and let me tell you, it went really well with the cold winter breeze.
Menu à la carte was unavailable, so we settled for the fixed menu. Starting off with a lemony fresh Cranberry mocktail, we rushed towards a Mexican bean soup (which was creamy and tangy). Cheesy cigar rolls (which we couldn’t have enough of) and Crostini bread (cold mouldy bread) made up the starters section.
The main course included paneer shashliks and penne in a creamy pesto sauce, both decent tasting recipes that could have been bettered. The saving face was the mango cheesecake with blueberry sauce. Mango and blueberry flavours combined with a cheesecake made the dessert novel and praiseworthy.
To sum it up, the food was delicious, but not what we expected at a whooping sum of 1200 bucks. (I don’t mention the bill details usually, but this seemed exorbitant.)
With its subtle charm, @9 is the perfect place for a date night for those who wouldn’t want things to get awkward and cheesy. However, for those who want it that way, they offer reserved tables with flower petals et al. But let’s not typecast a place. @9 is a restaurant for anyone who can put up pricey heavy food in exchange for a breathtaking view and breezy ambience.
