“A photograph has picked up a fact of life, and that fact will live forever.” ~ Raghu Rai
Vacheron Constantin, the world’s oldest Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacture with more than 250 years of uninterrupted history, supports the art of photography through its association with Tasveer in India and brings to Ahmedabad the exhibition ‘DIVINE MOMENTS’, by celebrated photographer Raghu Rai.
If photography is like writing, then Raghu Rai’s photographs are like poetry. The essence of his photography is to capture time in that one frame and freeze ‘Divine Moments’, which would otherwise go unrecorded.
Prior to Ahmedabad, this exhibition has travelled to New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. The photographs in the exhibition are in black and white and span a long part of Raghu Rai’s career; it includes his first ever photograph ‘A Baby Donkey, Near Delhi’ from 1965, as well as some of his more contemporary work. What holds it all together, however, is the idea that in each photograph he has caught the subject at the precise moment that elevates it towards something spectacular, unexpected, and at times, divine.
Opening Reception: Monday, 4th March, 2013 5.00 PM onwards
Venue: Design Gallery, National Institute of Design, Paldi
Exhibition Continues: 5th – 14th March, 2013 4.00 pm – 8.00 pm daily
