Ahmedabad is a hub for all niches like food, garment, tourism, travel, IT, textiles etc. With its broader horizons and scope for career, one must not forget the vivid literature heritage it comes with.
The history of literature in Gujarat traces back to medieval times when folk songs, narratives, theatre, and dance were performed. Those activities became our inspiration and you can see taking it different form as we progressed.
Ahmedabad, Book Fair 2015 is an homage to it. Every year, Ahmedabad Book Fair in association with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation brings this book fair – a medium where lovers and writers can meet. Spread in seven days, 1st May – 7th May 2015, you will see a wide variety of events happening in the book fair. (For complete event schedule: Click here)
There will many events that will run simultaneously. Everyone is welcomed to join and attend it. Some of the events that we, the people at Ahmedabad Blog would love to visit are – ‘Cartoon making Workshop’ by Abid Surti as a tribute to late R. K. Laxman, Blog Writing Workshop by Satori group.
These two events will be light, fun filled, interactive, and will motivate people to learn something new. With that, there many book reviews that will be happening at the fair such as Prakash ni pagdanidiye by Rajendra Patel, Dikri Vahal No Dariyo – a book reading session by RJ Pooja – which will be an interesting session to attend. Puppet making by Satori and Fin Factory, Creative Writing session by Ahmedabad Book Club, The Writer’s Meet by AMC and ABC (Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Ahmedabad Book Club) are something else to look forward too.
We also know that there is going to be Reader’s Forum every day between 12:15 to 2 PM; where different reader’s will share inputs on their favorite author or book. It would like a discussion where you can meet and greet other like-minded people.
Isn’t it a wonderful way to beat the Summer heat and stay updated? In its own words, ABF describes the fair story as, “Organised in sync with ‘Vanche Gujarat’ mission of the Government of Gujarat, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation in association with National Book Trust, India and with participation of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad and Gujarat Prakashak Mandal had successfully organised National Book Fair in the year 2012, 2013 and 2014. ‘Amdavad National Book Fair’ held since 2012, from 1st to 7th May annually, has become a major calendar event for the publishers and book lovers from all over the nation. The Amdavad Book Fair 2014 presented a feast of different dimensions of literature for the visitors. Both the previous editions of Book Fair had special sessions for the children too. Inspirational talks for youth and women empowerment, discussion on world literature, prose and poetry, fiction and non-fiction reading sessions, Gujarati literature by famous literary personalities, Gujarati drama and theatre, special musical evening by lyricists and ghazal singers, interactive author’s corner, big discounted books on sale were a major attraction last year. Two food courts served delicacies from Gujarat, and other cuisines to cherish and beat the May summer heat with ice-creams, cold drinks and beverages between browsing through 100s of books at the stalls and attending literary sessions with great literary fervor. About 100 motivational speaker and great orators were a great treat to ears of august audience and cherishing listeners across Gujarat. Friends and families flocked to the Amdavad Book Fair 2014.”
