Ahmedabad in Numbers

We all love Ahmedabad and never fail to boast about the greatness of this city. We all feel pretty damn euphoric that we live in a city, which no matter what, will always lift our spirits and give us reasons to live here forever. But do we know Ahmedabad in numbers? Here are a few numbers that describe Ahmedabad in a different light.

According to the census of 2011, Ahmedabad’s population is 7,208,200, which is an increase of 22.31% since the previous census of 2001. When we divide the census according to gender, there are 3,787,050 men in Ahmedabad and 3,421,150 women. That means the sex ratio in Ahmedabad stood at 903 women per 1000 males.

Furthermore, there are total 801,967 children under the age of 0 to 6 years against 769,666 of 2001 census. Of the total, 801,967 male and female were 431,421 and 370,546 respectively.

Speaking about the literacy rate in Ahmedabad, it proudly stands at 86.65% i.e. 5,551,238 people aged seven years or above can read and write with understanding.

The density of Ahmedabad district as of 2011 is 890 people per sq km. Out of the total Ahmedabad population for 2011 census, 84.05% lives in urban regions of district and 15.95 % population of Ahmedabad district lives in rural areas of villages. Also, when it comes to Urban Agglomeration (UA) in India, Ahmedabad is ranked 7th. UAs are defined as a continuous urban spread comprising one or more towns and their adjoining out growths (OGs) like areas around a core city or town, such well recognized places, like railway colony, university campus, port area, among others that are outside the limit of town.
