A bit of Tansen. Bit of Mirabai. And a Khayal of Viraj Amar!

How much do you know about Tansen? Or for that matter about Mirabai? Neither do I know about either of them. Untill I heard their ragas live at Viraj Amar’s concert. This Indian Classical Music Concert “Khayal Gayiki” by Viraj Amar was held recently at the conclusion of Fete Da La Musique on World Music Day (21.6.13). Well, this music fest was celebrated at Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad to honor and to celebrate the art of music globally. And whooaaa!! I was stunned by Viraj’s incredible talent of ragas. Her perfect marriage with the ragas her focus with the beats, her style everything was just so blissful! So glad that she is a part of Ahmedabad!

Why is music so powerful? What makes it so perpetual? Maybe I need to learn this art to get the answers. Ahmedabad is sanctified with art. With artistic people. And the more I survey artified connection(s) the more I submerge into it. There are art exhibits at various art galleries like Hutheesing Art Gallery, Ravi Shankar Kala Bhavan, Amdavad ni Gufa et al. Or there is a live performance by Amdavadi musicians at various levels and at distinct occasions. Or there could be art explored in culinary wherein you will get to taste some of the bizarre taste combinations and your purse will bless you for investing it in such yummy food arts!! The recent art which is upcoming on an explosive level is film making and theatre. And one such celebrated platform is Shamiana Shorts; a short film club, which screens short films, made all over the world and screened globally! I see to it that their Amdavadi screening ain’t missed by me!

Viraj Amar represents the generation of bright, new, talented young artists.

The other day one of my friend saw a mother asking her kid to stop shouting out of excitement. To this he replied if parents stop their kid(s) from expressing themselves freely then how can they grow? How a child will evolve with his/her imagination if it’s subdued like this???

Well observed by my pal who actually made me muse over it. As kids we are often restricted. Restricted for this and restricted by that. I really don’t know though whom to blame and whom not to!

I bow down to all the musicians out there who discover constantly with their art and make us go forward as humans.
